Macon – Bibb County grand jurors indicted a Macon woman Tuesday on four counts of cruelty to children in the first degree stemming from allegations he caused a 3-year-old boy to sustain a string of injuries on Sept. 1, 2017.

Latonya Demetira Stephens, 39, is accused of causing the boy to sustain a non-accidental traumatic brain injury, broken ribs and burned skin. She additionally is accused of depriving the boy of food to extent that his health and well-being were jeopardized, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.

An indictment is a charging document issued by grand jurors if the group determines probable cause exists for the case to move forward toward trial.  Each defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
