Macon – Two people were sentenced to prison Monday in the 2017 fatal shooting of 20-year-old Keenan Olajawon Guice and the subsequent investigation.

Demarcus Colson, 26, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court. As part of a plea agreement, Colson was sentenced to 30 years. The first 15 years must be served in prison.

Markeysia Odeshia Milligan, 24, pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal. As part of a plea agreement, she was sentenced to serve five years in prison.

If the case had gone to trial, Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Malcor would have presented evidence showing:

On Dec. 18, 2017, a man confronted Milligan, saying he was upset that her boyfriend, Colson, was involved with his girlfriend. Later that evening, Colson and a friend went to a Riley Avenue apartment complex on the night of Dec. 18, 2017, to confront the man.

There was an argument and shooting ensued. Shots were fired at the man who’d earlier confronted Milligan, and at Guice who’d arrived with him. Guice was fatally shot. The evidence is undisputed that Guice was not involved in the disagreement.

Colson ran away after the shooting. He returned later to get his vehicle. Milligan then took him to her father’s home in Atlanta where the two hid until they were arrested two days later by members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Speaking after the hearings, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Life matters, and it can easily be taken away when someone foolishly settles a dispute with a gun fight. All too often, innocent people are killed in the crossfire. I hope Mr. Colson and Ms. Milligan will learn from this tragedy and that they’ll value life more after spending years of their own lives behind bars.”
