Jacob Miller

Macon – A Macon man was sentenced to prison Tuesday in the 2016 shooting and armed robbery of a Papa John’s delivery driver.

Jacob Elijah Miller, 22, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and aggravated assault. As part of a plea agreement, Miller was sentenced to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole followed by another 20 years on probation.

Miller already is serving a 35-year prison sentence imposed about two years ago after a judge found him guilty of violating his probation in a 2015 case

If the case had gone to trial, prosecutors Neil Halvorson and Justin Duane would have presented evidence showing:

Bibb County deputies responded to the 2400 block of Vivian Drive in south Macon on Dec. 26, 2016, and found that Brooklyn Rouse, a Papa John’s pizza delivery driver, had been robbed and shot.

Testimony would show that the delivery was supposed to be Rouse’s last run of the night. But after getting out of her car and walking toward the delivery address, she sensed someone behind her. After turning around, she saw Miller pointing a gun at her. He robbed Rouse of cash and shot her three times before leaving her for dead.

Investigators later tracked the call that made the delivery order to a cell phone that led them to a witness who said the order was placed at Miller’s instruction.

Witnesses would have testified at trial that they’d seen Miller with a gun.

Rouse testified at the October 2017 probation revocation hearing and identified Miller as the man who shot and robbed her.

The case against a second defendant charged in the case still is pending.

Speaking after the hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Our community should be able to feel safe knowing that someone can work an honest job without worrying whether they’ll live to return home to their loved ones. Mr. Miller’s sentence will be a lesson for many decades to come that this kind of senseless violence won’t be tolerated.”
