Macon – A Macon man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Thursday in the 2015 fatal shooting of Jarvis Ronte West at a Clinton Road apartment.

Shavez Christian Flewellen, 25, also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer and to violating his probation.

Flewellen was sentenced to 20 years, 17 of them in prison.

If the case had gone to trial, prosecutors Jonathan Gordon and Jason Martin would have presented evidence showing West, 23, was shot multiple times Dec. 17, 2015, following an argument with Flewellen at Pine Ridge Apartments.  West died soon after arriving at a local hospital.

At the time of the shooting, Flewellen was on first offender probation for a 2013 Bibb County case in which he’d pleaded guilty to having a gun with a serial number that had been removed.

Speaking after the hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Anytime a life is lost to violence it’s a tragedy. We hope today’s sentencing brings peace to Mr. West’s family.”
