Macon – Jurors deliberated less than an hour Friday before finding a Macon man guilty of rape following a trial in Bibb County Superior Court.
David Lee Davis, 25, will be sentenced at a later date.
Prosecutors Shelley Milton and Jonathan Gordon presented evidence during the trial showing Davis forced a then-21-year-old woman to have sex against her will behind the Kroger supermarket on North Avenue on Dec. 11, 2015.
A doctor testified the woman suffers from mental illness and intellectual disabilities that would have rendered her unable to consent to a sex act. The woman testified she didn’t want to have sex with Davis. GBI experts testified DNA from both Davis and the woman was found on two condoms retrieved from the crime scene.
Speaking after the verdict was announced, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “Mr. Davis thought he could prey on one of our most vulnerable citizens and get away with it. The jury thought otherwise.”
